Same applies to being in the clinch against the cage, if you are not looking to advance your position IE: dropping for the single or trying to control the head for some clinch hitting (dirty boxing) then they will seperate you as you are basically stalling the fight process.
I agree totally with this as you will get some wrestlers which will just hold you down and not try to do anything, they have no submissions and are looking to win on points by controlling you, it's boring and takes away the whole point of the contest.
Standup will always be my favourite part, I love a good dust up so naturally I want to see it when I'm watching a fight but as I understand what's going on when they hit the floor then that is equally apealing to me aslong as we don't get the big guys just bullying the other guy down then lying on him, that's boring as hell, advance, submit, gnp the crap out of them or get up as you are wasting everyones time.
I totally respect boxing and as I pointed out to Larry way back, it's part of MMA, it's just another one of the many arts (science) involved in MMA as this is the whole point: MIXED martials arts. The UFC now isn't what the UFC was back when it started, it started on the idea of throwing all the different arts together and seeing which one came out ontop so we had a guy who was just a boxer or just a judo or just a wrestler going up against other guys who were just w/e. Now adays it's a MIXED martial artist fighting another MIXED martial artist, it's not the same thing anymore.
@Rocky:
The UFC doesn't do that pay to stand up crap, that was EliteXC and they paid Seth to standup against Kimbo as they knew their dumbass bunch of fans wouldn't pay to watch Kimbo submitted, it's awsome that they watched him get KO'd from a jab instead muwahahahaha.
Ii was really incredible that they started the kimbo circus in the first place. He wouldnt stand a chance against anyone remotely good.

I have been following MMA ever since UFC 1. Fights get stood up to please the crowd. This is a fact that has been admitted by multiple promoters. It is very clear especially when you compare UFC to Japanese promotions where the general public is familiar with ground grappling and flow of the matches is not interrupted. In fact in Japan the option of stalling on the ground in order to get artificial stand up leads fighter getting yellow card (and less money paid), second card is red (DQued). In UFC it is easy. Just stall and wait for stand up to get free pass back to standing up and safety. UFC does not have similar yellow card system etc.
Anyway the very reason for stand ups in the first place was to please the crows who dont have a clue about ground grappling. Fights were taking too long for PPV concept to be viable. An event could take 2 hours or 5 hours. (longest fight I have seen was Royce Gracie vs. Sakuraba, which laster 90 minutes) That's when they decided to add rounds.
Second problem was audience not understanding ground grappling at all. To general public it looked more like two men rubbing each other bodies... and BORING. This is the exact reason why stand ups were included in rules in the first place and as I said promoters have discussed this issue publicly so it is not a secret. It is all about show. It has gone to pretty bad. Recently a promoter got caught for paying extra for a fighter to NOT take his opponent to the ground at all and just to trade standing because crowds love to see two fighters trading mindlessly "street fight" style.
There are several example where fights have been stood up in middle of other fighter setting up a submission and even few cases where other fighter had a submission hold on opponent and multiple cases of opponent in dominant position attacking getting stood up. One of the funniest things I have see is a fighter losing the fight TWICE in a single match. Matt Lindland got tapped twice against Murilo Bustamante. Referee had no clue about ground grappling and ignored Lindland tapping to straight arm bar. fight was restarted and Murilo had to literally choke his opponent out to get a win.
In general it is a complete joke when you see fights where nothing happens up standing and no one is landing/making any progress whatsoever standing up trading. Yet there is no similar rule of "stand downs".
You can take your opponent down, who then has option of getting free pass to back standing up, which put you in a position of having to do it all over again regardless of if your opponent actually has necessary skills to take the fight back to standing up on his own or not.
No reason to go in defensive mode, im not attacking grabling or saying this or that is "better". Simply saying that whatever rules you have, boxing has proved to be an important part and useful
Boxing was never given any credit by martial artist before, they more or less considered it totally useless.
But after MMA it has been giving at least some credit.

Its not true, they are allowed to stay on the floor if one is making progress.
If its taking too long they gonna stop it. Its something that some uses as an extended clinch though.

I wouldnt mind paying for these things if I didnt have to buy all kind of junk equipment and get all sort of channels that I don't need, just to be able to watch ppv.

I'm watching it on sopcast, im not quite there yet where im going to buy the ppv. I dont like thats its a company running a kind of closed tourno..would be better if it was like the "real" world championship (open for all).
I liked that they used more boxing than I think they would and that boxing suddenly is a very effective style in ufc. Of course you need to know more but the majority of kos are out of classic boxing punches.
After I took a few lessons in bjj im beginning to understand the ground game a bit too..which is also quite fun to watch.

It was a good show. I didnt like the 3*5 minutes main event.. thats only 15 minutes of fighting ? weres boxing is usually 12*3 = 36 minutes or at least 10*3=30 minutes. But other than that very entertaining.

A funny mode would be "streetfighter mode" where fights are only one round and your energy doesn't go up.

Btw it doesnt favor spammers right now. I'd say it favors both boxers and spammers

Good work Mikkel, hope to see more changes to come.
Skillz, would you support it if Mikkel changed the stamina the OTHER way around? So fighters gas out quicker? ... I think NOT!!!
I remember fighting you...and I just used my defence to make you miss all of your spamming shots and you gassed out FAST...then I perfectly chose my shots and used nice boxing and accuracy to pick apart a tired and gassed out Skillz...
HOWEVER...
Now that this stamina change has occured...I bet it suits spammers who throw a crap load of punches with no thought involved...like Skillz and Edder.. (no offence to either..you both just come to mind when I think of frantic fast spam attacks)...
So isn't this unfair to fighters that use their boxing skills and brain?
It heavily favours people that button bash with little or no thought...in my fights I always have a strategy that stretches over most rounds...I usually make opponents miss and tempt them into throwing lots of punches...because I want to let them gas out and lose lots of stamina..then I pounce and pick my shots to take them out...now I am worried I can't do this again...
I haven't played OB in over a week...so I don't know what it's like with the new stamina system...so I can't really judge it yet...but from what I've read...it seems biased to favour spammers and unfair to smart fighters who utilize a strategy in a fight!
I hope some people agree with me..if not...meh!
Meh.,It seems biased to write a thread like this without fighting a few times first. Meh !
